Back pain and spine-related diseases are a group of very common problems and are growing in incidence over the years. Several reasons like weight gain, sedentary lifestyle, wrong posture excessive sitting or standing etc. account for the increased prevalence.
Ayurvedic Treatment for back pain is based on the cause of the back problem. Generally back pain of recent origin responds quickly to conservative treatment approaches like rest, painkillers etc. Persistent back pain is often caused due to Disc prolapse and Arthritis of the Lumbar Spine and it also leads to other complications like Sciatica, Radiculopathy etc.
Conventional (Allopathic) Treatment is aimed at relieving the symptoms by the use of painkillers or through physiotherapy and traction. If these measures fail, patients are advised to undergo invasive procedures like epidural injections or surgery to release the pressure on the nerves that get pinched to get relief or to avoid further complications. However, these procedures are complicated, and do not provide long-term benefits.
Ayurveda offers a very tangible alternative in almost all cases. Administration of Panchakarma (The detoxification therapies) with special focus on Vasthi (Enema) clubbed with the other therapies like Podikkizhi (Choorna pinda sweda), Elakkizhi (Patrapotala sweda), Abhyanga (medicated oil massage) etc in conjugation with herbal medicines is very effective in providing tangible benefits in all these cases, rendering the patient free from back pain and other symptoms. It also helps in preventing further degeneration of the cartilage, bones and nerves involved preventing further recurrence.
